What is IV therapy or IV drip therapy?

IV therapy, short for intravenous therapy, is a single type of fluid or a combination of fluids that are injected into a vein through an IV drip. Your medical professional will determine the specific combination of fluids to be administered, and an RN will usually administer the injection. Typically, one liter of fluid will take between 30 and 40 minutes to administer.

Why is an IV a better delivery method than taking medications orally?

  • Age: vitamin and mineral absorption decreases over time, so older adults may not absorb a sufficient amount of their medication. An IV, however, injects the fluids directly into the bloodstream, which yields an approximate absorption rate of 90 percent.
  • Chronic illnesses: those who have chronic gastric issues such as celiac, Crohn’s disease, GERD, IBS, IBD, or colitis may need to bypass their digestive system, so IV therapy is ideal.
  • Decreased absorption time: when the fluid is directly injected into the bloodstream, medications take effect much more quickly, so the healing response is accelerated.
  • Dietary restrictions: those who have severe dietary restrictions may be unable to absorb adequate nutrients from their food.
  • Hydration: those who are severely ill may have difficulty maintaining their hydration level.
  • Increased absorption rate: the body absorbs IV liquids almost twice as quickly as when the medication is taken orally.

Who sells IV fluids in the Phoenix area?

Drip AZ IV Therapy has a mobile IV therapy service that serves the Phoenix Metro Area, Scottsdale, SE Valley, and the following cities: Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, Maricopa, Casa Grande, Tempe and North Scottsdale as well as Old Town.

There are no extra fees for the mobile IV service, and an RN (Registered Nurse, Travel Nurse RN) will administer your IV therapy.

We don’t sell individual bags of IV (lactated ringers and saline) for personal use. All IV fluids must be part of an IV therapy treatment program.

Are there possible problems with IV therapy?

Not everyone is a good candidate for IV therapy, so we’ll perform a comprehensive intake before we administer an IV. Issues that can preclude IV therapy include:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Chronic renal disease
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Bleeding or clotting
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Renal failures

How frequently will I need IV therapy?

The frequency of your treatment will depend on your goals and your immediate needs. If you need immediate treatment for an acute illness such as a migraine or food poisoning, a cold or the flu, then one treatment may be sufficient. Otherwise, we can administer a back-to-back treatment that should help you improve.

Migraine sufferers should call as soon as the migraine begins, but you can receive an IV drip treatment when the migraine is in full force.

Some clients have weekly treatments to help with chronic illnesses, compromised immune systems, lack of energy, wellness or gastrointestinal issues. We also offer single-event treatments, weekly or bi-weekly IV therapy treatments.
